Q: I need iTunes support for the Yamaha CRW-F1 CDRW Drive
A: OS 9 Info: Update Jan 12th, 2003 - reader Kan said the file for OS 9 below didn't work for his CRW-F1E (reported by ASP0 drive and sent this modified YamahaCDR file for the CRW-F1E model that he said worked.
(older info follows)
Hussein Holland sent a modified Yamaha CDR file (Download file updated Jan 6th, 2003 - prev. download unstuffed to a text file.) he edited to add support for the Yamaha F1 CDRW drive in OS 9.2.2. (He doesn't have the drive to test so any readers that try this file report back if it works ok.) Like all modified files, this replaces the file of the same name already installed on your system. (It replaces the Yamaha CDR file in the System folder/Extensions/Authoring Support folder). This plugin should work in any OS 9 version. OS X 10.2.2 added support for the drive in that OS version, but there's been no updates for OS 9 authoring support from apple since 1.1.9 months ago.)OS X Info: Note - the info below was posted before OS X 10.2.2 was released - which reportedly added native support for the F1 drive w/o mods.
(from the Oct. 15th, 2002 www.xlr8yourmac.com news page)A reader sent a Modified Yamaha Plugin file edited for Yamaha CRW-F1 (44x24x44x) drive support in OS X 10.2.1 and iTunes3. He later wrote he has the IDE internal drive model - I don't know if the IDE and Firewire version of this drive have the same firmware/Model ID - so it may not work with both.
Note: Like all 'unofficial' mod. files - they are provided as-is with no warranty or guarantee. (You can't replace the existing file under OS X due to permissions unless you use the terminal to enable root user, or do a get-info on the file to change permissions temporarily, or just reboot into OS 9 and replace the file.)
